Christie’s Tianminlou Yuan blue and white porcelain collection debuts at auction, plum vase with lid sold for 270 million

Christie’s Hong Kong Autumn Auction’s much-anticipated “Tian Min Lou Collection Special Sale” will be held today (November 30) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, because it is the first time that the most famous private porcelain in the collection industry has released its heaviest weight. The Yuan blue and white treasures attracted much attention before they were put up for auction. The venue was packed with guests and the bidding was fierce. In the end, 13 of the 15 lots were auctioned, with a total transaction value of over HK$260 million, twice the pre-auction total estimate of over HK$120 million.

The first blue and white plum vase with peony and cloud shoulder pattern to hit the auction block was sold for HK$67,775,000 (approximately NT$270 million), which was more than three times the pre-auction low estimate. It aroused enthusiastic buying enthusiasm at the scene. Many pieces were sold at auction. The lots were also sold at prices several times higher than their pre-auction low estimates amid fierce competition from many buyers. Including a pair of Qianlong vases with golden melons and auspicious patterns on the ground, which were sold at the next highest price of HK$40.35 million (approximately NT$160 million), a large porcelain plate with blue and white grape flowers and grapes from Ming Dynasty, and a blue and white platter with four seasons floral pattern from Yongzheng period in Qing Dynasty. The double-eared moon-holding vase and the Qianlong bean-green glaze engraved Kui dragon pattern statue of the Qing Dynasty have achieved good results.
