Matthew M. Williams steps down as creative director of Givenchy! Designer’s statement and future trends revealed!

Just when we were happy to see Givenchy return to its elegant essence in the 2024 spring and summer series, the brand and designer Matthew M. Williams jointly confirmed that they would end their cooperation and part ways. Williams, who is from Chicago, USA, took over the post of creative director of French fashion brand Givenchy when the epidemic broke out in June 2020. Now that the epidemic has subsided, it is the time for various fashion houses to show off their talents. However, Williams and Givenchy jointly announced that they will officially leave the brand that has been in charge for more than three years on January 1, 2024.

In the official statement, both the designer and the brand left positive words to bring the partnership to an end.

During the three years at the helm of Matthew M. Williams, it can be said that Givenchy has staged a version of trend variations, injecting the brand’s classic design elements into modern trend energy; you can also see gorgeous and delicate tailoring and fabric use in some custom-made dresses. Supermodel Kendall Jenner and Gigi, Bella Hadid are all his supporters. The brand’s “Shark Lock” shark boots, “U-Lock” jackets and iconic “Voyou” handbags have quickly become popular items. It is reported that Williams and Hong Kong K11 Group entrepreneur Adrian Cheng will conduct in-depth business cooperation to expand and develop the designer’s personal brand 1017 Alyx 9SM founded in 2015.

Now that Matthew M. Williams has left after his contract expires, it may be a mutual decision not to renew the contract. Coincidentally, the creative director before him, Clare Waight Keller, only stayed at Givenchy for more than three years. On the other hand, Givenchy has not announced the new designer it will take over. Sarah Burton, who just left Alexander McQueen, and French designer Simon Jacquemus have become hotly debated successor candidates on the Internet.
