CELINE launched the 2025 summer women’s wear series “UN ÉTÉ FRANÇAIS” (tentative translation: French Summer) online during Paris Fashion Week. The fashion show video was directed and filmed by design director Hedi Slimane and was held 80 kilometers north of Paris. Photographed at the Château de Compiègne on the banks of the River Z.
The film unfolds with the whispering songs of The Velvet Underground & NICO. Hedi Slimane created this series while re-reading Françoise Sagan’s book “La Chamade” in May this year, integrating literary inspiration into his clothing vision, mixed with the recent passing of France. The tribute by singer Françoise Hardy creates a nostalgic atmosphere of French summer in the 1960s.
The scene unfolds from an old typewriter decorated with the TRIOMPHE logo. Hedi Slimane’s long-standing fascination with the romantic youth of the younger generation breathes new life into the current collection. In addition to the music and clothing styles of the 1960s, short bangs, long or short bob hairstyles, and black headbands are reminiscent of the unique styles of young, wealthy, and independent women in London and Paris during the millennium. It also sets the tone for a design that combines academic style with rock and roll.
Preppy pleated skirt suits, newly woven in lightweight summer cashmere or returning with hand embroidery; short tweed jackets, pleated skirts, pencil skirts, mini skirts, wide white ruffle collars, delicate scarves around the neck , adding a touch of romance and girly charm to a structured suit. The patent leather sling-back kitten heels are embossed with lizard, crocodile, and python to add a sense of luxury; the stacked necklaces are paired with sequined embroidered sleeveless items, bringing a consistently gorgeous atmosphere. The silhouette of the clothing has turned to simple tailoring and is more feminine. The multi-layered sequins and crystal embroidery on the doll skirt shimmers with metallic light, two-color feather embroidery, floral embroidery, etc., all are hand-embroidered by CELINE workshops; hand-crocheted Dresses embellished with crystals and sequins were inspired by Jane Birkin. The new TEEN JOSÉPHINE bag was also unveiled.
