German brand RIMOWA has collaborated with British artist Ptolemy Mann to launch a new limited edition RIMOWA Essential Cabin Threshold suitcase. This limited edition suitcase incorporates Mann’s classic work “Threshold” and adopts a new seasonal color Nautical navy blue. This is An elegant midnight blue, RIMOWA continues to combine color art and craft aesthetics in its Essential series of seasonal colors.
Characterized by vibrant color gradients and geometric forms, Ptolemy Mann blended architectural aesthetics with modern abstract art. Her early artworks were hand-dyed and woven canvases defined by the emotional interplay between line and paint. She then created her signature line drawings, “Thread Paintings,” which showcased her Abstract Expressionist style through expressive brushstrokes. RIMOWA has applied Ptolemy Mann’s artwork to the polycarbonate shell of the RIMOWA Essential Cabin Nautical. This limited-edition suitcase is only issued in 1,000 numbered pieces and enjoys the brand’s lifetime warranty.
The design uses a complex ink layering technique to simulate the texture and brushstrokes of Ptolemy Mann’s original paintings. Parts of the shell remain unprinted, allowing grooves in the polycarbonate to add depth and create a three-dimensional effect that pays homage to her textile art style. In addition, Ptolemy Mann’s artistic lines extend to the interior of the luggage compartment, where the signature brushstrokes are printed on the RIMOWA Flex Divider movable partition.
