French-American sculptor, painter, and printmaker Louise Bourgeois, known for her bold and emotionally charged artwork, has inspired countless viewers. Recently, her works were exhibited for the first time in Taiwan, sparking widespread attention. Evelyne Chetrite, Creative Director of SANDRO, has been deeply influenced by this iconic artist’s style and has drawn inspiration from her classic creations to launch a collection of women’s fashion pieces with a distinct artistic flair.
In developing the 2025 Spring/Summer collection, the SANDRO women’s design studio delved into Louise Bourgeois’ creative world while researching the aesthetic of the collection. Bourgeois is renowned for her monumental sculptures, with the classic spider sculpture (the largest of which is titled Maman) being the most famous. However, her creative universe extends across many different facets, with SANDRO founder and Artistic Director Evelyne Chetrite particularly fascinated by the spiral patterns in Bourgeois’ works.

In order to convey the symbolic resonance of the spiral elements in her work, Louise Bourgeois drew inspiration from her childhood memories, connecting the spiral pattern with a range of emotions, transforming it into a striking visual metaphor that represents complex feelings. The artist also placed great importance on fabric, often using materials from her own wardrobe and home during the creative process. She would dismantle garments and reassemble them in various ways, turning them into patchwork elements in her artwork, showcasing a highly personal and unique creative approach. Long before the concept of upcycling became a trend, Louise Bourgeois had already integrated this practice into her artistic process.
