WWG Watch Exhibition 2025 / “Walking with Light”: Bulgari Breaks the World Record for the Thinnest Watch by 10 Degrees

As a contemporary Italian high-end jewelry brand, Bulgari (BVLGARI) has made explosive breakthroughs in Fine Watchmaking over the past decade. During the 2025 Geneva Watch and Wonders exhibition, Bulgari not only surpassed physical boundaries once again but also broke the world record for the 10th time with its ultra-thin movement, unveiling the “World’s Smallest Ultra-Thin Flying Tourbillon”: the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon. Additionally, Bulgari reimagined its iconic Serpenti collection, introducing the all-new Serpenti Aeterna women’s watch, which brings a transformative update to the classic design, evoking the slithering elegance of a serpent.

Over the past decade, Bulgari has consistently demonstrated its remarkable creative power in high-end watchmaking, pushing the boundaries of physical limitations and continually breaking records for ultra-thin movements.
By abandoning the traditional crown and integrating it into a flat structure on the back of the watch, Bulgari has once again successfully pushed the limits in creating an ultra-thin movement with complex functions.

Since 2014, Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo collection has introduced 13 movements and set 10 world records, including three women’s high-jewelry timepieces: the Piccolissimo micro-movement, the Micro Tourbillon Lady, and the Lady Solo Tempo automatic movement. Notably, Bulgari first participated in the world’s largest watch fair, Baselworld, in 2014. However, following industry changes, the brand shifted its focus to LVMH Watchweek. In 2022, Bulgari made a significant step in Swiss haute horlogerie by debuting at the Geneva Watch and Wonders exhibition, marking an important milestone in the brand’s evolution.

One of the highlights of the 2025 collection, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, features the new BVF 900 manual-winding movement, which once again, and for the 10th time, rewrites the world record. The movement consists of 240 components and holds 6 patents. By merging the movement’s main bridge plate with the caseback, the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon achieves an unprecedented thickness of just 1.85 millimeters, setting a new world record. Despite its ultra-thin design, the watch also takes into account rigidity and stability. To enhance structural strength, the main bridge plate of the BVF 900 movement is made of tungsten carbide, while the case and movement are crafted from microbead-blasted titanium metal.

Over the past decade, Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo collection has amassed a series of ultra-thin movements, consistently breaking world records and becoming synonymous with ultra-thin watchmaking.

The Octo collection is defined by its octagonal case, with a bold and grand geometric silhouette that exudes a sense of Italian architectural elegance. However, its ultra-thin dimensions create a striking contrast, offering both power and lightness. The BVF 900 manual-winding movement features a flying tourbillon, escapement system, and an off-centered time display, all crafted with skeletonized design. As light falls from above, it travels through the case and movement, embarking on a sacred journey of “walking with light,” showcasing the intricate beauty of both the watch and its mechanical complexity.

Since its inception in the 1940s, Bulgari’s Serpenti jewelry timepieces have become a quintessential textbook of Italian haute jewelry, blending exquisite style with masterful craftsmanship.

Let us not forget that Bulgari’s roots lie in jewelry. The brand’s Serpenti collection, which has evolved since the 1940s, this year coincidentally aligns with the Eastern tradition of the Year of the Snake. Bulgari has frequently unveiled various iterations of the Serpenti women’s timepieces, from daily wear designs to those with exquisite craftsmanship and dazzling gemstones. In 2025, Bulgari introduces the new Serpenti Aeterna, a timepiece that embodies the essence of transformation and rebirth, as symbolized by the eternal snake.

The Serpenti Aeterna preserves the iconic structure of the original Serpenti, but with a more minimalist design at both the head and tail of the watch. Available in both platinum and rose gold versions, the Serpenti Aeterna features a quartz movement and is adorned with a snowflake setting of numerous diamonds. The platinum model is accented with green hands and a crown set with a round brilliant-cut emerald, while the rose gold version comes in two sizes: the 104205, a small size measuring 145mm in length, and the 104280, a larger size measuring approximately 155mm.

For the first time in 2025, BVLGARI participated in the Watches & Wonders Geneva Watch Fair, showcasing the brand’s Italian elegance in both fine jewelry and ultra-thin timepieces.

The Serpenti Aeterna rose gold diamond-set jewelry watch features a more streamlined and abstract design, while the dial and the extensive snow-set diamonds on the watch require an immense amount of time and craftsmanship to create.
Resembling an “infinity glove,” the bracelet-style jewelry also serves as an extended transformation of the Serpenti collection.
