Miley Cyrus has always been on the road to vintage fashion. At this year’s Grammy Awards, the singer stole the show while performing her hit “Flowers” on the main stage in a 2002 Bob Mackie dress. Her love of classic design is also reflected in the song’s music video, where Miley Cyrus wears a gold hooded gown from Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall 1991 collection, among other vintage looks. Working with stylist Bradley Kenneth, the star has mastered the art of modernizing vintage silhouettes.
Naturally, then, Cyrus’ new music video for “Doctor (Work It Out),” a collaboration with Pharrell, contains some vintage treasures that must be appreciated. Outfits worn by Cyrus include a chic Roberto Cavalli mini dress from the brand’s Spring 2004 collection and a Paco Rabanne chainmail look from Spring 1991. In one scene, Cyrus sings in an icy blue Birger Christensen Mongolian fur coat; the same coat Linda Evangelista wore when she appeared on the September 1997 cover of Vogue. In the film, the jacket is paired with vintage Plexiglas earrings and bracelets, and a Dior Plexiglas ring from the John Galliano era.
While these ’90s and 2000s pieces could easily feel like a party or fun event, the way Cyrus wears them makes them feel very 2024 It Girl, and we couldn’t agree more! “Miley has always been my inspiration in everything I do,” says stylist Kenneth. She is ours too.
