Just as encounters between people create unique experiences, the compatibility of different materials can also spark stylistic brilliance. RICHARD MILLE has introduced the new RM 74-02 automatic tourbillon watch in Gold Quartz TPT® gold leaf quartz fiber, showcasing a transparent and enchanting symphony of time through the resonance of diverse materials and complex mechanical craftsmanship.
In the past, RICHARD MILLE has demonstrated the possibilities of various crafts in materials, ultra-thin design, high shock resistance, and intricate carving, leading the trend of high-end sports watches with the experimental use of vibrant and high-tech materials in their cases. The so-called “Gold Quartz TPT®” is a result of collaboration between the brand and North Thin Ply Technology, a Swiss company specializing in composite materials, developed over several years. The toughness and delicacy of Gold Quartz TPT® come from layering ultra-thin quartz fibers in complex and multiple layers, which are then heat-formed at 120°C under 6 bars of pressure. A layer of 22K 5N red gold is embedded within the structure, producing a unique visual effect of color and texture. The RM 07-01 ladies’ watch previously showcased this material, and the RM 74-02 has also featured styles combining gold leaf with carbon fiber, each with its own distinctive character.
The new RM 74-02 Gold Quartz TPT® model utilizes RICHARD MILLE’s in-house CRMT5 automatic tourbillon movement. This movement shares the same structure, decorative details, and functionality with the CRMT6 automatic movement used in the RM 74-01 watch, with the main difference being that the CRMT6 uses a Grade 5 titanium alloy for the base and bridge plates. Both movements feature the brand’s classic variable geometry automatic rotor and adjustable winding efficiency. The automatic rotor of the RM 74-02 Gold Quartz TPT® model is crafted from red gold and platinum, while the base and bridge plates are made of 18K 5N red gold and 3N yellow gold. This display of extraordinary luxury and vibrancy comes at a time when international gold prices continue to rise.
